I think by the age of 30, I finally came to the realization that it was my time to choose the path I should have chosen after high school.
At the tail end of my highschool journey, I had two interests. Music, for I was in the Glee club performing in musicals, and Computers (web design) entering web design competitions when Flash was a thing. Eventually the love for music moved ahead of computers and I was off to Full Sail embarking on my Bachelors in Recording Arts. I graduated and began my career as an assistant engineer in a recording studio (working with artists like Pharrell, the Weeknd, Enrique Iglesias), to then a cashier in Walgreens, to a Technician at an audio equipment repair shop, to an AV Integrator for Cruise Ships, then an OSP Engineer in a Telecommunications, to now a Senior CAD Designer for another cruise ship AV integration company.
It’s safe to say I’ve had a pretty weird path to get to where I’m at now. Yet, I don’t feel fufilled, and felt like I was settling with where I’m at currently. That’s when I knew I needed a career change. So I decided to try and become a fullstack developer. I saw the successes my high school classmates from the web design class were having following that path and being in that tech world which I still love. I wanted that. I still do, and hope to achieve it. So, where do I start?
Aimlessly trying to learn everything at once, watching every damn youtube video I could find (too many), I felt a bit lost to tell you the truth. I was in that tutorial hell.
Thankfully, life decided to throw me a lifeline and I met Zach (and Javi! Shout out to the Cap) at a Disney Vacation my girlfriend and I were invited to and he just so happened to be a Fullstack Developer, a very knowledgable one at that because I could barely keep up with everything he was saying, yet I was still able to follow just enough from all the youtube videos I had watched and asked as much as I could from what I knew. Thankfully he was kind enough to give the direction I felt I so desperately needed and we connected on Discord and that’s when I felt I truly began the new journey. Start with CSS he suggested…
